Blue Energy Concepts follows the People-Planet-Prosperity principle and believes that hydropower can only be sustainable if properly designed, build and operated while taking social and environmental concerns into account. These  concerns typically relate to the impact on fish-mortality and fish migration, wildlife habitat, fauna, water quality and water availability, morphology, recreational benefits, and in the case of hydropower facilities with large reservoirs, also greenhouse gas emission and displacement of population.

For these reasons, Social and Environmental Impact Assessments are to be performed as part of the licensing of the construction. But in addition, Blue Energy Concepts believes that good monitoring and oversight functions need to be in place. This is one reason why Blue Energy Concepts will focus on local networks, contractors, materials and strengthening a sense of local ownership. This will generate jobs, income and accountability that will reflect positively on both the project and Blue Energy Concepts.
